The Netherlands

In the Netherlands the North Sea Cycle Route follows the Noordzee route in the west from the border near Sluis to Callantsoog (LF1) and in the north the Waddenzee route (LF10). In the south the LF1 runs across the islands of the south-west part of the Netherlands, which have - all but one - been connected to each other by dams in the second part of the 20th century. The route continues through protected areas with sand dunes where no traffic is allowed. The northern part of the Dutch North Sea Cycle Route displays quite a different landscape. This part of the country with panoramic polders, flocks of sheep, large farms and charming villages is sparsely populated.
