In Gothenburg the Euro Velo 3 merges with the North Sea Cycle Route (EuroVelo 12)and the national cycle path Cykelspåret, through Bohuslän County to Svinesund in Norway. The route follows the beautiful Swedish west coast from Sweden’s second largest city Gothenburg, taking you north to the Norwegian border. Part of it runs through traffic, but follows cycle paths and small country roads wherever possible. The scenery is varied with miles of sandy beaches, barren rocks, rolling meadows, silent forest tarns and in between, towns and cities throbbing with fun. No strenuous uphill terrain here, just the joy of cycling! The ferry from Frederikshavn in Denmark takes you to Gothenburg, the largest city on the Swedish part of the route. Feel the pulse of Gothenburg, enjoy all that it has to offer. Have fun at Liseberg, the Nordic region's largest amusement park, or enjoy the city's wide range of exciting entertainment. With the sea and sea bathing on your doorstep, you will find everything you need just around the corner. As you leave Gothenburg, you pass through Kungälv, a small town known for its fortification. From this point on, the route runs through the inland forests and lakes of the Bohuslän region. Further north is the archipelago with small communities such as Fiskebäckskil and Fjällbacka, and idyllic small towns such as Lysekil and Strömstad. From Strömstad the cycle route continues on to Svinesund, with fantastic views of the Idefjord, the natural boundary between Sweden and Norway.
