In 2010 the author and big cycling fan Andrew P.Sykes decided to cycle from his home in southern England to southern Italy to see a friend along the route of the Eurovelo 5. It was a memorable, if rather wet, summer and he subsequently wrote the popular travelogue 'Crossing Europe on a Bike Called Reggie'. Now the book is also available in Italian and we like to share the introduction and a nice extract from his day in Pisa with you (in Italian).
On one of his last trips semi-professional travel photographer Alexandre Rotenberg has cycled 170km of the mainly-asphalted and very popular Italian 'ciclovia del po', a EuroVelo 8 section from Pavia to Mantova. At the same time he also used his trip to sign most of the EuroVelo 8 on behalf of the project VENTO*. 2017 will be influenced by the 200th anniversary of the bicycle. When Karl von Drais made the first ride on his invention called “Laufmaschine” (literally “running machine”) on June 12, 1817 through Mannheim, a town along the Rhine Cycle Route EuroVelo 15, he laid the ground stone for a new era of mobility. In the meantime, the “Laufmaschine” has developed into a modern bicycle and has become a vital everyday mode of transportation for many people around the world. To celebrate this anniversary, many events will take place along the Rhine Cycle Route in 2017, especially in Baden-Wuerttemberg, the birth place of the bicycle.

Pete Martin, a fellow cyclist and author, has cycled most of the river routes throughout Germany and Austria. We would like to share with you an extract from his book "REVOLUTIONS: Wandering and wondering on a sabbatical year", in which he is writing about his cycling trip from the northern part of the Rhine between Neuwied (near Koblenz) to Widdig on his way to Rotterdam.
The EuroVelo7 is also know as the Sun Route, running from the tip of Norway in the Arctic, all the way to Malta in the Mediterranean. The section that runs between Berlin and Copenhagen is one of the most famous parts to the entire EuroVelo network. The freelance journalist Dan Cole was one of the 7,000 cyclists making this trip in 2016. On his personal blog 'An Englishman abroad' he describes his experience of the trip between the two capitals, on mostly purpose-built cycle paths that take you through forest, fields and small villages. Our Turkish National EuroVelo Coordinator, EnverÇevko, have just opened a 'Guesthouse for cyclists' at their office in Menteşe (the new name of Mugla). There are 2 beds, a bath with hot water and small kitchen and the facilities can be used for free by cyclists. So stop by and say hello if you are passing that way!
Sabina and Stephan were so enthusiastic about their first bike tour last year, from the Furttal in Switzerland, across the capital cities Vienna and Praque to Dresden further to Heidelberg that this summer they decided to take a bicycle trip along the EuroVelo 15. The days are getting shorter, temperatures are slowly decreasing and the colours all around are changing from green to golden and red – autumn has its very particular charm. Especially fascinating is the landscape all along the Rhine Cycle Route EuroVelo 15 from its source in Switzerland to its delta in the Netherlands. A cycle trip alongside the river Rhine in autumn can be combined with numerous events.
For his most recent challenge, British author Tim Moore undertook a truly epic cycle ride – travelling the whole of EuroVelo 13 - Iron Curtain Trail on an old GDR shopping bike and just for good measure starting the trip (north of the Arctic Circle) in March. With the book of his experiences, The Cyclist Who Went Out In The Cold, out this week, we spoke to Tim about his journey along the longest EuroVelo route in the network.

International Study tour tested the new cross-border cycle loop along the EuroVelo 13 in Austria and Czechia

EuroVelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route is a long distance cycle route currently running between Nordkap in northern Norway and Sagres in Southwestern Portugal. Following an application submitted by the Portuguese Federation of Cycletourism and Bicycle Users (FPCUB) it has been announced that from the 1st July 2016 the route will extend from Sagres all the way along the Portuguese Atlantic Coast to Caminha on the Portuguese/Spanish border.
EuroVelo 15 – Rhine Cycle Route is expected to be the third most frequently chosen cycle destination for 2016 in Germany, EuroVelo6 brand appears on the radar of German cycle tourists
On its bike tourism event on the ITB in Berlin, the Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrradclub (ADFC) has revealed that the EuroVelo 15 is the third most frequently chosen cycle destination among German bike tourists according their plans for 2016.
The Rhone Cycle Route has become the first new route to join EuroVelo, the European cycle route network, since 2011. The long distance cycle route, which follows the course of the River Rhone through Switzerland and France, has now officially become EuroVelo 17 – Rhone Cycle Route.
From the 31st of May to the 3rd of June 2016, the Rond Uit Dordrecht gives you the opportunity to discover a part of the Netherlands on two wheels.
